Family Life

Text Box: Airman & Family Readiness Center

The musical storybook is a collection of children’s stories along with music featuring the Air Force Band. This program allows deploying service members to send a CD to their young child(ren), letting them know the member is thinking of them even though they are far away. CD request forms are issued during deployment briefings.

A spouse/significant other or a parent can place two 15-minute calls per week from home to the military member’s deployed location. This program is available when the member is TDY or deployed for 14 or more days. Contact the Airman and Family Readiness Center, 294-4329 to find out how to get registered.

AIR FORCE AID SOCIETY (AFAS)

This program is offered to help relieve stress associated with military life. The Air Force Aid Society will fund child care for dependent children of active duty Air Force, 6 months to 12 years of age. Child care is provided the first Saturday of each month from 1230 – 1730 at the Offutt Child Development Center. Please call the Child Development Center for a reservation by noon on Friday prior to care, at 294-2203. Referrals can be obtained from an Airman and Family Readiness Center representative, First Sergeant, or Family Advocacy personnel. Prior to participating in the Give Parents a Break program at the Child Development Center, each child needs to have on file an AF Form 1181, a copy of up-to-date shot records, and the Give Parents a Break certificate. If you have made a reservation and will be unable to use the care, please call the Child Development Center, 294-2203, as soon as possible to cancel the reservation.

PERSONAL READINESS BRIEFINGS

Predeployment and reunion briefings are available to military members and their families (if applicable). These briefings are designed to help members prepare for lengthy TDY’s/deployments. Issues such as emergency contacts, financial concerns, household issues, and the importance of power of attorney and wills are some of the topics covered. Other discussions focus on the emotional side of separation to include sustainment activities and reunions. Readiness issues pertain to single members as well as those with families. Call to get scheduled for this educational briefing. Spouses are highly encouraged to participate.

REUNION CD

The reunion CD is designed to assist all service members and their families prior to and following reunions. The CD provides information applicable to single and married members and reunion. There is also information regarding children and reunion. The CD is free for individuals who visit the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

CAR CARE BECAUSE WE CARE

The Air Force Aid Society will pay to have the “primary family vehicle” of active duty Air Force members safety inspected and an oil change performed to ensure the automobile will make it through a lengthy TDY, deployment, or remote tour. This service is provided at the base Service Station and is intended for the spouse of service members who are deployed for 30 days or longer. You will need to provide the Airman and Family Readiness Center with a copy of orders to receive a certificate. If urgent safety issues are identified for repair, families are encouraged to return to the Airman and Family Readiness Center to discuss a possible interest-free loan from the Air Force Aid Society.
